Committee Room 13, House of Commons
Tonight we held AGM at the Houses of Parliament. The event was well attended, with many young teachers there. The speaker was Nick Gibb MP, the Minister for Schools, who talked about the importance of restoring knowledge to the curriculum. There was plenty of opportunity for Q&A with Nick afterwards, and it was clear the opinion of the audience was that children deserved to be given the rich experience of acquiring knowledge rather than being guinea pigs for trendy ideas.
After the talk, the Annual General Meeting was held at which Steve Mastin was re-elected Chairman and a new Committee was formed. Meetings will be held regularly on the second Tuesday of each month and a programme of first class speakers has been lined up.
Vice President, Tricia Gurnett, said "I am so glad that, after a difficult period, CES is now in safe hands. Steve Mastin has worked hard to make the re-launch work and Will Bickford Smith has done a great job in providing a new website."
New members would be welcome at the next meeting.
