The Conservative Education Society is honoured to welcome the Chair of the Education Select Committee, The Rt. Hon. Robert Halfon MP, who will speak to Society members via Zoom and take your questions.
Robert lives in Harlow, and was first elected Member of Parliament in 2010. He was re-elected in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 General Elections. Prior to his current role, Robert was Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party and attended the Cabinet as a Minister without Portfolio from May 2015 to July 2016. In July 2016, Robert was appointed Minister of State for Higher Education, Skills, Apprenticeships and Careers at the Department of Education – a role he held until the 2017 General Election.
Over the last five years, Robert has run a number of high-profile campaigns, including his work to increase and improve apprenticeship opportunities in the UK. He was the first MP to employ a Parliamentary Apprentice, which, in 2012, gained him the label of 'the best campaigning MP in Parliament today” by Conservative Home. In 2013, Robert was named 'Campaigning MP of the Year' at The Spectator Awards.
