Between 1993 and 2006, John took part in over 170 inspections of primary, secondary and special schools, leading 100, and contributing to the training and mentoring of new inspectors. He will describe his experience in the context of the history of inspection before and since, with real examples of good and bad practice, including the changes to inspection in 2005. A key point will be the role of inspection in promoting excellence as well as identifying problems.
